John McCain has two great wars, Vietnam and the second Iraq war. He is proud of having fought in the first, and proud of being a staunch supporter of the second.
Could we please remind him that the Vietnam war was started by the United States, against a sovereign nation--and we started it on the false pretext that we had been attacked. Lyndon Johnson claimed that two US Navy ships had been attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin; later his White House had to admit that this had been a lie.
And the second Iraq war was started by a war-mongering George W. Bush, lying to Congress, the American people, the United Nations, and the world about Saddam Hussein having nuclear weapons and having connections with Al Qaida. We know, now, that he and his administration lied.
Why should John McCain be so proud of having fought in a war of American aggression? And why should he still be championing a second war of American aggression? Both wars were illegal, immoral, and criminal. They were and are antithetical to the principles upon which this country was founded.
